Same sex marriage

In Italy, there is still no marriage equality for same-sex couple. Since 2016, even in Italy, it is possible to join civilly (with a legal and recognized procedure) through the so-called civil unions approved by the “Cirinnà law”.

This law, pending for years, also guarantees same-sex couples legal protection and recognition of mutual rights/ duties, as in the eterosexual wedding.

Italian civil marriage and civil union, what are the differences?

As we said, in Italy there is still no marriage equality. For this reason, civil marriage is recognized only for heterosexual couples. When two people of the same sex join together, we talk about civil union. This kind of marriage guarantees rights and duties comparable in all respects to those provided for by same-sex marriage.

Unlike marriages, however, the bureaucratic procedure for civil unions is much faster. Once the registrar confirms the clearance, couples have 180 days to decide on the date to join civilly.

Organizing a same-sex wedding in Italy

According to the so-called “Legge Cirinnà” on Italian civil unions, this kind of ceremony can be organized in any municipality of Italy, regardless of where you have your residence. The act, which can be followed by a ceremony treated in every detail as a real gay wedding, can be organized in different places.

First of all, inside the special municipal halls, which in Italy are often beautiful places and art and culture floors, or in the so-called municipal houses, or prestigious locations where you can carry out both the civil ceremony and the reception, such as the Convento di Giaccherino in Pistoia, in the Tuscan countryside.

Same-sex wedding venue in Italy

As for any wedding, our team is ready to inspect for you a special themed wedding setup: colors, flowers, catering and music, and the selection of a dream venue to celebrate your love with friends and relatives. You can decide to organize even a symbolic wedding in the venue or just the reception.

The only certainty is that whatever your need, on the most important day of your life, we will be at your side to allow you to have fun without having to think about anything else.
